Parallel Lines - Blondie

By Baptiste

1978
Rock

" Once I had a love and it Was a gas,
Soon Turned Out to Be a pain in the ass!
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Much of mistrust, love's gone behind! "

I inserted
Parallel Lines in the drive of my PC without much conviction. of Blondie I knew that Call Me and Heart of Glass, later renamed Once I Had a Love (aka the Disco Song) . Two tracks cults, but that's not enough to make a career right? An hour of listening later, I returned to the library to borrow the rest of their discography. Parallel Lines is excellent.

The album begins with Hanging On The Telephone . The tone is set entry: Debbie Harry wants to show it is not simply a former Bunny Girl, but a great rock singer. The mission is fully completed as this is passed back to its original B-side of the 60's. When Nerves had composed this piece in 1976, their influences have long since belonged to the past while Blondie Only two years later, his eyes fixed on the next decade. With this album, the New Yorkers have made their pop and rock of the 70's, and erecting the foundations for what would become the sound of the 80's. Parallel Lines ranks somewhere between Suffragette City by David Bowie (1972) and Radio Ga Ga Queen of (1984).

For his texts as its melody, Heart of Glass has attained the status of worship song. It's well deserved success but unfortunately obscures the rest of the album is nevertheless admirable. The rest is a roller tube. One Way or Another, Picture This, I Know But I Do not Know, 11-59, Sunday Girl etc.. The criticism could stop there. Listen to them, you understand. This album has more great songs than most Best Of

Only after long plays that I have found some flaws in this album. Introduction Picture This song may suggest a generic series produced by AB. Of course, with the arrival of the song, that impression fades to disappear completely with the apotheosis of the last chorus. Some pieces also tend to ease. Many, like Fade Away and Radiate , know no real purpose and end with a lower volume lazy.

I repeat again: I searched long Advent to find fault with this album. It is absolutely essential in a nightclub worthy of the name.

The best conditions for listening to this album :
As usual, the best conditions are expensive ... This time, I suggest you rent a convertible old American and roll the hair in the wind on the Pacific Coast Highway.

The song of the album: Hanging On The Telephone . Even if the choice was very difficult, I think this song is the best.

The sequence of good taste: With album 16 Lovers Lane the Australian The Go-Betweens , the group least charismatic of the world, were clearly within the tradition of Blondie - with 10 years late, but with talent.

The opinion of Fred A

Blondie Knowing that some tubes for these planets, listen to "follow parallel Lines " struck me as a cold water on my ideas. Come a time when electronic tweaks were not made at the expense of traditional instruments, this album is more than a shower, a veritable deluge pop.

From the first song (Hanging On The Telephone ), Debbie Harry makes goes inside and picks the listener by the timid hand to invite waddle merrily. With its frenetic pace, its cascading guitars, his melodies and choruses omnipresent light, the proposal is enticing and promises are kept. After a thunderous start, the zenith is reached with Pretty Baby, Will Anything Happen? and Sunday Girl.

Despite its strong fundamentals, the album misses nothing of the last step in his rise to stratospheric levels of instant classics. The main defect is usually calibrated for a group of radio as Blondie : it lacks a bit of consistency and binder between songs. Heart of Glass, for example, arrives like a hair in the soup after the excellent Sunday Girl eclipse and the following songs while Fade Away And Radiate fall clearly set the pace early in the album.

Nevertheless, follow parallel Lines is a must-70s and is highly recommended listening morning depressed days of greyness. In the shower, give yourself a few minutes to whisper "La dolce vita Is A Magic Dance No One Is listenning " and everything will be better. It's the magic Blondie.

Saying no to the 10 € of Marie Antoinette

Mail of a visitor to jean-Jacques Aillagon, president of the Versailles Palace:

mail Subject: "Sadness"

"Mr. President,
Sunday, October 3, 2010, first, first. First Time I discover that your new policy of paying access to the gardens and especially on the farm of Marie Antoinette. First planted and where disabled as many "sad individuals" before a booth where you explain it to pay its dues of 10 euros. First time I refuse ... I say it is impossible that somewhere I have to say no. First small cultural revolution in my profile good little citizen.

first time I try to explain to my children and their cousins, no, no detailed argument or at least historical (cultural gaps without doubt Mr. President) we can not or rather we must not accept the decision. First time I lost in my thoughts zap, surf, try the info on the Internet to understand why. First time I want to verify that no I am not alone and that other weird but probably have the same manner of protest or just surprise. First time I dare to write my protest, my confusion.

Some of the first times that are only small moments and emotional intelligence in the history of each. And then there are the firsts time, known as the firsts. Mr. President you come across history and across our country to sign one of those great moments.

Who will remember this day, my children, their cousins, me? Regardless, Mr. President, you and I will not be there to know ... Only oaks and minds we outsource later.

Allow me, Mr. President, to you my most sincere and warm tributes ... Free ":: Candide in the gardens of Versailles
attendance inflated with helium
Versailles, disturbing coincidence, endowed the Castle "finally an efficient ramp metering." It is his President Jean-Jacques Aillagon himself who announced very conveniently, on his blog in a post dated June 17 Without specifying the method technically, it would seem that this does for now that entries Dufour and Gabriel pavilions. Calculating the number of visitors for one day, he gave us reason then implicitly by including among the visitors to Big Water, only those who "paid a special ticket", that is to say non-cumulated with a castle or other ticket he explained. Indeed, we question the official attendance figures for the simple reason that there are in counted several times for the same day, the same people, in such proportions that it completely distorts the final statement. few days by the very serious Journal Arts resumed our argument on the "rat race to record attendance" of major museums not necessarily synonymous with quality, also questions the reliability of figures given by the institutions themselves (which does not even log used to establish its annual list of museums in the
interest and questionable method when Roland Recht was surprised to turn in a column published in the Journal of the Arts next.
To illustrate his point, the journalist was arrested on the Versailles case: "For 2009, the Chateau de Versailles has announced more than 7 million people (an increase of 10% of visitors) where the report of activity provides 4.6 million ...". Yes. How not surprising that these new figures yet bear no resemblance to those, officials, we have (5.4 million for 2009, the last press conference Aillagon JJ)! So do we expect to be able to verify that which emanates from the 2009 activity report in late August, is still not online on the website of the castle ...
:
Read "The policy of increasing" by Daphne Betard THE JOURNAL OF THE ARTS # 328 LOUVRE FOR ALL an active measure of cultural democratization: "The revised system of charging for our work, inspired by our desire to participate actively in the democratization of culture, and reflected mainly by the significant reduction of the tariff access to the National Museum of modern art (normal price 30 francs and 20 francs discount against 38 francs to 30 francs earlier) and by including the right of access to the Museum at any ticket purchased for an exhibition has largely contributed to the reaffirmation of the identity and activity of the National Museum of Modern Art in in all activities offered by the Centre Pompidou and his restoration to the forefront of the major museums of modern and contemporary art in the world. " However, betraying the lack of conviction followed a policy of cultural democratization who will soon become Minister of Culture, the following year, the decline will be erased to return almost to the price earlier: 36 francs museum entrance. Ditto for exposures will also increase substantially: 30 and 40 francs in 2000 for 42 and 56 francs in 2001 while eliminating "The inclusion of the right of access to the Museum" (Source: annual report Centre Pompidou, 2001).

Finally, to top it all, they omitted to mention Jean-Jacques Aillagon in 2000, was the end of free access to the panorama of the Centre via the escalator outside, attraction had been the glory of the building, now available for 20 francs. A free it will also remove certain areas gardens of Versailles. No, the democratization of culture, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, it's really not his thing.

Sweep Me Away - Fredrika Stahl

By Baptiste

2010
Pop / Jazz

" I'm far away I Took a rocket trip to Mars.
I Flew away 'cause life on Earth WAS I was to harsh. "

Another highly anticipated album and, to quote one of many anonymous poets of Deezer" unrolls his beautiful album good. " For me now to explain it a little better ...

A fraction Of You , the first album of Fredrika Stahl, put himself in the ranks of the best jazz record stores shelves. The second Tributaries , had brought the radius pop, while keeping his place on the airwaves of Radio Jazz . Sweep me Away With , it is clear that the beautiful Swedish watered his eardrums influences far more diverse than his classics. In fact, she even rob a Virgin . of Moldy Peaches on the song Song Of July with his acoustic guitar and singing birds, electronic effects worthy of Emilie Simon on Sweep me away , Fredrika Stahl visibly expands its horizons. For my part, I love.

As many steps forward, it implies to leave some things behind. Sweep me away on , these are the texts in Swedish and French. " Between you and me is broken, nothing will go " is the only non-English words on the album. Dan Brown certainly find a religious code in this sentence to explain the absence of language of Molière and Stieg Larson. Me, I see only: Fredrika attack the international market! This reason also explains the presence of So High tube, his penultimate album at the end of it. Another clue comes
confirm the scaling of the career of the young Scandinavian. When in his old albums, it would have a few violins to the maudlin with Sweep me away , it is accompanied by a real orchestra. Songs on MOSW (read My Own Special Way and not the Ministry Of Silly Walks Monty Python of ) and Fading Away , we can easily imagine Frederika Stahl in evening dress, singing the first part of Dean Martin. What is the feminine of crooner?
In another style, In my head and especially Fling was boy could have been part of the soundtrack of a romantic comedy in English. This is not a criticism: the movies are bad but the music is generally very nice. What

purists can rest assured all the same "style Fredrika Stahl is present throughout Sweep me away. Even if violins are budget tripled from his second album, the song A Drop in the sea would have been amply his place. Fredrika sings feelings sitting behind his piano, while playing melodies simple but extremely catchy, his voice doing the rest.

Since the beginning of media hype around Sweep me away, the presence of a new song in a commercial for a car and number of sores in the gaps of music, I do not make me any worries about the commercial success of this album, but still run to buy it.

The best conditions for listening to the album:
As the mood of the album sometimes turns to the British romantic comedy, soak up the atmosphere. Pay for four single friends to get married and one fifth to be buried can be quite expensive, I suggest you simply take the shuttle with your other half (Am I alone in finding this stupid phrase?) And go to Notting Hill .

The song of the album: Rocket trip to Mars

The sequence of good taste: Begin to Hope - Regina Spektor . Otherwise, Bouna , the group of former journalist Stephanie Renouvin should soon release an album. In the meantime, take a ride on their Myspace page.

Fantasies - Metric

By Baptiste

2009
Pop

" I know it's a lie, I want it to Be True.
The rest of the ride IS riding on you. "

Fantasies is part of the long list of albums that I eagerly awaited and that disappointed me at first listen. My second view was more nuanced. Then after the third I started to appreciate it. After long plays I am transformed into an unconditional fan of this album. I've listened to it last August, my neighbors can attest. Again the band Emily Haines has published a great pop album. The melodies of

Metric are simple but devastatingly effective and the voice of Emily Haines is still captivating. As with Fredrika Stahl, bewitched you would even if she was reading a Vietnamese restaurant menu. Far from the joyful sounds of the first two albums (which I strongly advise you to listen too), electronic effects and battery heady present Fantasies seem more sad and nostalgic ( Collect Call). A critical Rock & Folk define surely as the album of maturity. Conversely, Stadium Love ends the album on fireworks: the battery lasts tape, the guitar is fat and saturated and your head movement will cause uncontrolled muscle aches in your neck the next day.

Hopefully the presence of Eclipse (All yours) , an unreleased track on the soundtrack of Twilight Chapter III (4 million admissions in France), bring a large number of followers of Skyrock and NRJ to much better bands like Metric . Fantasies is certainly built for. Easily accessible, this album is nonetheless of high quality pop. Gimme Sympathy, however distant waves, is a tube power. Surfing between machines to dance like Satellite Mind and Muse Sick , and ballads to listen to sitting with a good headset ( Galaxy and Twilight Blindness), electronic sounds, drums muscular, and " Woooohooooh Woooh ! "terribly addictive you fully absorb in listening Fantasies.

Without revolutionizing pop and without disclosing the words worthy of Oscar Wilde, this third installment of Metric is, I think, a necessary investment. Today, the album actually succeeding in creating an atmosphere of the first at the last second are far too rare to attach to some defects present.

The best conditions for listening to the album:
For this album, the best conditions are still special, but this time he will act in two stages. Start with a big party in a box of rock Barcelona. Dance, sing, make meetings, exhaust you. Finally, when fatigue and your alcohol level advanced enough to disturb your vision will push you away from the place of the festivities, go alone to the Plaça de Catalunya . Sit on a bench under the neon lights of El Corte Ingles and Hard Rock Cafe , pull out your MP3 player and enjoy this album.

The song of the album: Gimme Sympathy

The sequence of good taste: Forgiveness Rock Record - Broken Social Scene (soon to be criticized on the blog)
