Fantasies is part of the long list of albums that I eagerly awaited and that disappointed me at first listen. My second view was more nuanced. Then after the third I started to appreciate it. After long plays I am transformed into an unconditional fan of this album. I've listened to it last August, my neighbors can attest. Again the band Emily Haines has published a great pop album. The melodies of
Metric are simple but devastatingly effective and the voice of Emily Haines is still captivating. As with Fredrika Stahl, bewitched you would even if she was reading a Vietnamese restaurant menu. Far from the joyful sounds of the first two albums (which I strongly advise you to listen too), electronic effects and battery heady present Fantasies seem more sad and nostalgic ( Collect Call). A critical Rock & Folk define surely as the album of maturity. Conversely, Stadium Love ends the album on fireworks: the battery lasts tape, the guitar is fat and saturated and your head movement will cause uncontrolled muscle aches in your neck the next day.
Hopefully the presence of Eclipse (All yours) , an unreleased track on the soundtrack of Twilight Chapter III (4 million admissions in France), bring a large number of followers of Skyrock and NRJ to much better bands like Metric . Fantasies is certainly built for. Easily accessible, this album is nonetheless of high quality pop. Gimme Sympathy, however distant waves, is a tube power. Surfing between machines to dance like Satellite Mind and Muse Sick , and ballads to listen to sitting with a good headset ( Galaxy and Twilight Blindness), electronic sounds, drums muscular, and " Woooohooooh Woooh ! "terribly addictive you fully absorb in listening Fantasies.
Without revolutionizing pop and without disclosing the words worthy of Oscar Wilde, this third installment of Metric is, I think, a necessary investment. Today, the album actually succeeding in creating an atmosphere of the first at the last second are far too rare to attach to some defects present.
